Mumbai, July 2026 — In Hindi cinema, it is rare to encounter a film that places a cat at the center of its narrative. Max, Min & Meowzaki, the internationally acclaimed feature written and directed by Padmakumar Narasimhamurthy, does exactly that, bringing novelty and freshness to the screen. Presented by actor-producer Samiksha Oswal and produced under the banner of SSO Productions by Samiksha and Shael Oswal, the film is a poignant multigenerational story about love, healing, and the courage to begin again.

The Challenges of Shooting with a Cat

Recalling the unique challenges of filming with a feline protagonist, producer Samiksha Oswal shared candid insights: “Nobody has ever made a film with a cat. There are films featuring dogs, but it’s difficult to shoot with a cat. I remember that the cat used to run away between the lights. She was sleeping most of the time, and people had to wait patiently. The time taken was more than usual. But the film is looking exactly the way we envisaged.”

Her reflections highlight the patience and perseverance required by the cast and crew to adapt to the unpredictable nature of working with animals, especially cats, who are less trainable than dogs.

A Story Rooted in Real Life

Samiksha further revealed the personal inspiration behind the film: “Shael is an animal lover, and this is our story also. He has a hundred stray dogs at the farmhouse. So, he was very excited to do a film with a cat. People don’t notice the small sacrifices that we make to adjust with our partner. The film is based on a very different subject. Certain things have never been addressed before, like a cat being the main protagonist. We were quite thrilled about the freshness of this idea and the whole look of the film.”

This personal connection adds authenticity to the narrative, making Max, Min & Meowzaki not just a cinematic experiment but also a heartfelt reflection of the producers’ own journey.

Themes of Love, Loss, and Renewal

At its core, the film explores universal themes of love, separation, and healing. It emphasizes the importance of second chances and the resilience of human relationships. By placing a cat at the center of the story, the film symbolically underscores the quiet, often overlooked sacrifices and adjustments that define companionship.

Cast and Performances

The film features a stellar ensemble cast including Medha Shankr, Siddharth Menon, Adil Hussain, Mandira Bedi, Nasser, Nafisa Ali, and Vidhatri Bandi. Each actor brings depth and nuance to the narrative, weaving together a multigenerational story that resonates across age groups.

Global Recognition and Awards

Max, Min & Meowzaki has already made waves on the international festival circuit:

  • Premiered at the Busan International Film Festival.
  • Selected in the prestigious Best of Fest section at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
  • Received Audience Honours at Sonoma, San Francisco, and Osaka.
  • Won Best Feature Film Awards at Stuttgart, Cincinnati, Berlin’s Indo-German Film Week, and RIFFA in Canada.

These accolades underscore the film’s universal appeal and its ability to connect with audiences worldwide through its unique storytelling.

A Fresh Experiment in Hindi Cinema

By choosing a cat as the protagonist, the filmmakers have broken new ground in Indian cinema. While dogs have often been featured in films, cats remain largely absent from mainstream narratives. This bold creative choice not only sets Max, Min & Meowzaki apart but also challenges conventional storytelling norms.

Trailer and Audience Anticipation

The film’s heartwarming trailer has already struck a chord with audiences, leaving them eager to enter a world that taps into the reality of healing and acceptance. The visuals, combined with the emotional depth of the narrative, promise a cinematic experience that is both fresh and moving.
