India Post Celebrates 80th Independence Day at Mumbai GPO

Mumbai, August 15, 2026 — The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at the Chief Postmaster General’s Lawn, Mumbai General Post Office (GPO). The programme was graced by Shri Ramchandra K. Jayabhaye, Hon’ble Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle, along with Ms. Simran Kaur, Director of Postal Services (Head Quarter), Maharashtra Circle, Smt. Rekha K. Rizvi, Director, Mumbai GPO, and senior officers and staff of Maharashtra Circle and Mumbai GPO.

The National Flag was hoisted by Shri Ramchandra K. Jayabhaye, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem by all present. The ceremony also included the singing of patriotic songs by GPO staff, adding to the spirit of unity and national pride.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Jayabhaye extended warm greetings to all officers and staff on the occasion of Independence Day. He highlighted the significance of the day, underscoring the values of freedom, unity, dedication, and commitment towards the nation. He reminded everyone that Independence Day is not only a celebration of India’s sovereignty but also a reaffirmation of the responsibilities each citizen carries in nation-building.

In his remarks, Shri Jayabhaye emphasized the important role of the Department of Posts in connecting citizens and delivering essential services across the country and beyond. He noted that India Post continues to serve as a vital bridge between communities, businesses, and government institutions, ensuring accessibility and reliability in communication and logistics.

He encouraged all officers and employees to continue performing their duties with utmost dedication, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility towards the nation and the people they serve. He stressed that the Department’s mission goes beyond postal services, encompassing financial inclusion, digital transformation, and community engagement.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of patriotism among the attendees, who pledged to uphold the values of service, unity, and commitment to the nation. The celebration at Mumbai GPO reflected the enduring spirit of India Post as a pillar of public service and its continued dedication to the progress and welfare of the country.
