Union Minister Raksha Khadse and Actor Jackie Shroff Flag Off ‘FIT India Cycles on Sunday’ Rally in Mumbai

National Sports Day 2025 marked with a vibrant cycling event at Borivali National Park, promoting fitness and public participation

Mumbai, 31 August 2025 — In a spirited celebration of National Sports Day 2025, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Smt. Raksha Khadse, alongside veteran Bollywood actor Shri Jackie Shroff, flagged off the ‘FIT India Cycles on Sunday’ rally at Borivali National Park, Mumbai. The event, organized under the aegis of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), drew enthusiastic participation from citizens, athletes, and fitness advocates across the city.

The rally commenced at 7 a.m. sharp, with hundreds of cyclists assembling at the park’s entrance, ready to traverse the scenic route mapped within the national park premises. The initiative is part of the broader FIT India Movement, which aims to encourage regular physical activity and foster a culture of health consciousness among Indians.

Addressing the gathering, Smt. Raksha Khadse emphasized the significance of integrating fitness into daily life. “National Sports Day is not just a tribute to our sporting legends, but a reminder that fitness is a collective responsibility. Events like these bring communities together and inspire individuals to prioritize their health,” she stated.

Actor Jackie Shroff, known for his long-standing support of environmental and health causes, echoed the sentiment. “Cycling is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to stay fit. It’s heartening to see so many people, especially youngsters, embracing this movement,” he said, before joining the rally for a short stretch.

The rally route was designed to highlight the natural beauty of Borivali National Park, offering participants a refreshing experience amidst greenery and wildlife. Volunteers and officials from SAI ensured smooth coordination, with hydration points, medical assistance, and safety marshals stationed throughout the track.

This year’s National Sports Day celebrations are dedicated to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, whose birthday on August 29 is commemorated annually to honor his contribution to Indian sports. The ‘FIT India Cycles on Sunday’ rally is one of several events being held nationwide to mark the occasion, including fitness workshops, sports competitions, and awareness campaigns.

Apoorva Manda, representing the Sports Authority of India, oversaw the event’s execution and logistics. Speaking to media representatives, she noted, “The response has been overwhelming. We’re seeing growing interest in community fitness events, and this rally is a testament to the public’s enthusiasm for active living.”

Participants ranged from professional cyclists and sports enthusiasts to families and senior citizens, many of whom expressed appreciation for the initiative. “It’s not just about cycling—it’s about being part of something larger, something that promotes well-being and unity,” said Ramesh Iyer, a local resident who joined the rally with his teenage son.

The event also featured brief cultural performances and fitness demonstrations post-rally, adding vibrancy to the morning’s proceedings. While the focus remained on cycling, the underlying message was clear: fitness is for everyone, regardless of age or background.

With the success of the Mumbai leg of the rally, organizers are optimistic about expanding similar events to other cities in the coming months. The FIT India Movement, launched in 2019, continues to gain momentum, with increasing public engagement and institutional support.

As National Sports Day 2025 concludes, the rally stands as a powerful reminder of the role sports and fitness play in shaping a healthier, more resilient nation. The collaboration between government bodies, public figures, and citizens underscores a shared commitment to wellness and active living.
