GJS 2025 Diwali Edition Opens with Visionary Leadership and Industry Grandeur
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurates India’s premier gem and jewellery showcase, spotlighting tradition, innovation, and economic impact

The Indian gem and jewellery industry witnessed a landmark moment as the Diwali Edition of GJS 2025 commenced with a grand inauguration, setting the tone for one of the most significant trade exhibitions in the country. The event brought together a powerful blend of government leadership, industry expertise, and cultural pride, reinforcing the sector’s pivotal role in India’s economic and artistic landscape.
The inauguration was graced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, whose presence underscored the importance of the gem and jewellery sector not only as a contributor to GDP but also as a generator of employment and a custodian of India’s rich heritage. In his address, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for structured growth, skill development, and global competitiveness, calling the industry a “symbol of India’s timeless craftsmanship and modern ambition”.
Organized by the All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), GJS 2025 has evolved into a flagship event that bridges tradition with innovation. With over 350 exhibitors and more than 750 booths, the exhibition showcases a dazzling array of jewellery—from intricate bridal collections to contemporary fashion-forward designs. Themed “Tyohar Bharat Ke, Show Humara Apna,” the event celebrates the festive spirit while promoting indigenous artistry and entrepreneurship.
Industry leaders such as Mr. Kirit Bhansali (Chairman, GJEPC), Dr. B. Govindan (Chairman, Bhima Jewellers), and Mr. Sandeep Kohli (CEO, Novel Jewels, Aditya Birla Group) were present to lend their insights and support. Their collective vision highlighted the importance of collaboration between private enterprises and government bodies to ensure sustainable growth and global outreach.
The exhibition also welcomed key dignitaries including Shri Pankaj Bhoyar, Minister of State for Home (Rural), Housing, School Education, Cooperation and Mining, and Smt. Chitra Kishor Wagh, Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Their participation reflected the state’s commitment to nurturing the jewellery sector through policy support, infrastructure development, and skill enhancement initiatives.
One of the focal points of the event was the emphasis on certification, hallmarking, and regulatory clarity. The GJC called upon the government to work closely with industry stakeholders to develop a comprehensive framework that ensures transparency and consumer trust. Discussions also revolved around the implementation of BNS 317 standards and the role of skill universities in training the next generation of artisans and professionals.
Mr. Rajesh Rokde, Chairman of GJC, expressed pride in the Council’s journey over the past two decades. He highlighted how Maharashtra alone contributes nearly 25% of the country’s GST collections, a testament to the state’s economic vitality and the jewellery sector’s integral role within it. He also recalled the historic moment in 2016 when the industry was addressed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, drawing parallels to the current inauguration as another milestone in the sector’s evolution.
The exhibition is not just a commercial platform—it’s a cultural showcase. Visitors can explore jewellery that reflects India’s diverse traditions, from temple-inspired gold pieces to minimalist diamond creations. The event also features interactive sessions, design competitions, and networking opportunities for buyers, designers, and retailers.
With over 10,000 visitors and 2,000 hosted buyers expected, GJS 2025 is poised to be a hub of business, creativity, and collaboration. It offers unmatched sourcing opportunities and a chance to witness the future of Indian jewellery unfold in real time.
As the Diwali season approaches, GJS 2025 serves as a beacon of celebration, craftsmanship, and economic promise. It reminds us that jewellery in India is not merely adornment—it is identity, legacy, and aspiration. And with visionary leadership guiding its path, the industry is set to shine brighter than ever.
