Empowering Public Health: AED Machine Installed at Poinsur Gymkhana
A Joint Initiative by Rotary Club of Kandivali West and Poinsur Gymkhana to Promote Emergency Response Readiness

In a significant step toward enhancing community health infrastructure, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machine was ceremoniously installed at Poinsur Gymkhana, Kandivali. The initiative was jointly organized by Poinsur Gymkhana and the Rotary Club of Mumbai, Kandivali West, reflecting a shared commitment to public welfare and emergency preparedness.
The installation event was held as part of an Induction and Training Program, aimed at educating gymkhana staff and members on the use and importance of AED machines in life-threatening cardiac emergencies. The program was graced by the presence of former Member of Parliament and respected public servant, Mr. Gopal Shetty, who attended as the chief guest and addressed the gathering with words of encouragement and appreciation.
Mr. Shetty emphasized the importance of timely medical intervention and praised the collaborative efforts of local organizations in bringing advanced life-saving equipment to community spaces. “Public places like gyms, parks, and clubs must be equipped with basic emergency tools. The AED machine is a vital addition that can save lives in critical moments,” he remarked.
The event also included a felicitation ceremony, where several distinguished medical professionals were honored for their contributions to community health. Among those recognized were Dr. Amola Parekh, Dr. Bhavna Wadiavala, Dr. Alpa Mehta, Dr. Anita Kerkar, and Dr. Mahendra Wadiavala. Their dedication to healthcare and public service was acknowledged by Mr. Shetty and other dignitaries present.
The AED machine was formally handed over by Mr. Devsingh Sahani and Mr. Raghunath Prabhu to Mr. Gopal Shetty and Mr. Karunakar S. Shetty, Vice President of Poinsur Gymkhana. The device will be installed within the gymkhana premises, ensuring that all members and visitors have access to emergency cardiac support when needed.
An AED is a portable device used to treat sudden cardiac arrest by delivering an electric shock to the heart. Its presence in public spaces significantly increases the chances of survival during cardiac emergencies, especially when professional medical help may not be immediately available. The machine is designed to be user-friendly, allowing even non-medical personnel to operate it effectively with minimal training.

The sponsorship for the AED machine was generously provided by Mr. Vimal Vasani of Manubhai Jewellers, whose contribution was acknowledged during the event. His support underscores the role of local businesses in fostering community health and safety.
Speaking on behalf of the Rotary Club, representatives highlighted their ongoing efforts to promote health awareness, emergency training, and infrastructure development in Mumbai’s suburban areas. They reiterated their commitment to equipping more public spaces with AED machines and conducting regular training sessions for citizens.
Mr. Karunakar S. Shetty expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the initiative and assured that Poinsur Gymkhana would continue to prioritize member safety and wellness. “This is not just a machine—it’s a symbol of our responsibility toward the community. We are proud to be part of a movement that places health and safety at the forefront,” he said.
The event concluded with a demonstration of the AED machine’s functionality, led by trained professionals. Attendees were given hands-on exposure to the device, learning how to respond calmly and effectively during cardiac emergencies. The training session was well-received and marked a crucial step in building a more health-conscious and prepared community.
This initiative at Poinsur Gymkhana sets a precedent for other institutions to follow. By integrating life-saving technology into everyday environments, it empowers citizens to act swiftly and confidently in times of crisis. It also reflects the power of collaboration—between civic leaders, healthcare professionals, local businesses, and community organizations—in driving meaningful change.
As Mumbai continues to grow and evolve, such grassroots efforts play a vital role in shaping a safer, healthier urban landscape. The AED installation is not just a milestone for Poinsur Gymkhana—it’s a beacon of proactive public health strategy that others can emulate.
