A Historic Hat-Trick: Indian Youth Footballers Honoured for European Treble Victory

Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya hails Minerva Academy’s triumph as a new dawn for Indian football

New Delhi, August 28, 2025 — In a proud moment for Indian sports, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, felicitated the young footballers of Minerva Academy Football Club following their unprecedented European treble victory. The ceremony, held in New Delhi, celebrated the club’s Under-14/15 team for winning three of the world’s most prestigious youth football tournaments: the Gothia Cup in Sweden, the Dana Cup in Denmark, and the Norway Cup in Norway.

Dr. Mandaviya described the achievement as a “new beginning for Indian football,” emphasizing that such international success signals India’s growing presence on the global sports stage. “This historic treble is not just a win—it’s a statement. It marks the start of a new era for Indian football, where our youth are proving their mettle on the world’s biggest platforms,” he said.

The Minerva Academy squad, comprising 22 players, remained unbeaten across 26 international matches during their European campaign. The team scored an astonishing 295 goals while conceding only a handful, defeating youth clubs from South America, Europe, and other regions. Their dominance and discipline on the field have drawn admiration from football communities worldwide.

Dr. Mandaviya urged the young athletes to always prioritize the nation in their pursuits. “Wherever you play, remember—Nation First. Your victories are not just personal milestones but national pride,” he said. He also stressed the importance of holistic development, advocating for greater emphasis on sports science, nutrition, and psychological resilience. “With the right support systems—mental conditioning, scientific training, and nutritional guidance—India will continue to march toward global sporting excellence,” he added.

The Minister encouraged the players to maintain their high confidence and passion for the game, noting that these qualities are essential for long-term success. “Your self-belief and dedication are your greatest assets. Nurture them, and you will inspire a generation,” he said.

The tournaments won by Minerva Academy are considered among the most elite youth football competitions globally. The Gothia Cup, often referred to as the Youth World Cup, attracts thousands of teams from across continents. In the 2025 final held in Sweden, Minerva Academy defeated Argentina’s Escuela de Fútbol 18 Tucumán with a commanding 4–0 scoreline.

Minerva Academy FC, based in Mohali, is one of six Indian clubs whose Under-14 boys’ teams participated in the Gothia Cup this year. The academy is also recognized under the Khelo India initiative, which supports grassroots sports development across the country.

Individual brilliance also shone through during the campaign. Konthoujam Yoihenba Singh was named Best Player of the Gothia Cup, while Huidrom Tony earned the same honor at the Dana Cup. Their performances exemplify the rising talent emerging from India’s youth football ecosystem.

Dr. Mandaviya’s recognition of the team reflects the government’s broader commitment to nurturing young athletes and promoting sports as a vehicle for national development. He reiterated that achievements like these are not isolated—they are the result of years of investment, training, and belief in the potential of India’s youth.

The Minister also highlighted the role of academies like Minerva in shaping future champions. “Minerva Academy has set a benchmark. Their discipline, coaching standards, and international exposure are paving the way for India’s football renaissance,” he said.

The felicitation ceremony concluded with a message of hope and ambition. Dr. Mandaviya encouraged the players to aim higher and continue representing India with pride and excellence. “This treble is a milestone, but it’s also a stepping stone. Let it fuel your dreams and drive you toward even greater heights,” he said.

As India celebrates this landmark achievement, the triumph of Minerva Academy’s young footballers stands as a testament to what focused training, national support, and unyielding passion can accomplish. It’s not just a victory—it’s a vision of what Indian football can become.
